What Do You Believe In?

I get this question a surprising amount. Possibly because I don’t check the readily available boxes that we typically use on each other.

So here’s my attempt to answer that question …

Let’s start with core identity … I identify as a human man. I believe in the sovereign uniqueness and intrinsic value of each human. And I believe in the equal power of the feminine and the masculine.

After that, I would say I’m a dad, a partner, a friend.

After that, a coach, speaker, poet, author.

I am generally suspicious of all other labels — mostly because they are social constructs and social constructs are an illusion.

Politically, I know what I don’t believe in. I don’t believe in Trumpism in any form. I think it’s the most horrific thing to happen to our country since slavery and the Civil War. I also don’t believe in socialism in any form. I do believe in liberty, unalienable rights, work, individualism, community. So I guess I would consider myself to be a libertarian republican (lower case “l” and lower case “r” definitely on purpose).

Spiritually, I also know what I’m not. I’m not an atheist nor an agnostic. But neither am I religious. I believe God is the energetic source of Love and Truth and the Creator of the universe through the use of what we would…
